by Kara Machowski
Even the average Starbucks lover needs a break from the high pact sugary drinks, along with the lines, pretentious patrons and feeling like we are feeding the Man. Here are the two highest rated hidden coffee shops in the loop of Chicago.
Pickwick Coffee
22 E Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60604
The Pickwick Company has been around for 160 years, originating as a stable back in 1857. Pickwick fell victim of the Great Chicago Fire but was rebuilt as the smallest south loop two story structure. For the next decade the Col. Abson’s Chop House became a staple for bankers, politicians and actors being that it was down an alley way and hard for the average patron to locate. Later added a third story and had the building raised over the next century where it was converted to a coffee house in 2013.
