If you are from the South-side of Chicago, chances are you grew up going to Rainbow Cone on those scorching summer days. The ninety-year old staple became a past time of the kids of Beverly and outlining neighborhoods. Lines used to form around the block of Western for a taste of that special perfect mix of flavors that created an array of colors perched on a small cake cone.

The glorious flavors include chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (New York Vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio and orange sherbet. Dwellers of outer suburbs, especially the city, often found that they were unable to get a taste of this special fuse of creamy cold deliciousness or were simply not willing to travel, until now. At least the demand will be met in the city since Rainbow Cone opened a second location, a stand on the Navy Pier, bringing their South-side magic up north. Located in the middle of Navy Pier of the outer shops on the south-side dock, you can find a tiny kiosk that serves their exclusive blend of ice-cream.

Rainbow cone is a seasonal operation so make sure to check the hours before you make a hike (or drive).
