Trump Shifts Focus Back to the Economy During Coronavirus Epidemic and Wants to See Churches Full for Easter Sunday

by Kara Machowski

After the White House briefing Tuesday morning, President Trump conducted an exclusive interview with Fox News where he boasted about how the new 2 trillion dollar bill will help bail out major corporations, how he’d like to see churches full for Eater Sunday and slammed New York Governor Cuomo for not ordering enough medical supplies for a pandemic back in 2015.

Just one day after the president touted Americans for their hard work in saving lives, many, many lives, he spoke about sending young Americans back to work to boost the economy. In other words, they’ll be sent to the front lines during our war against Covid-19 to save the economy and major corporations, during a world wide pandemic. The news shot a metal rod through my body, I was in shock. My husband, 36, is immune compromised and suffers from ankylosing spondylitis and I, 33, suffer from acute asthma. For so many Americans, the thought of going to the store is worrisome enough, but the idea of sending us back to work, those with children, who live with our elders, its frightening. Quite frankly, it would lead to an unnecessary loss of life. Monday night the president compared the lives lost due to suicide during a recession would be way more than the lives we would loose to coronavirus. In the Tuesday interview he again compared Covid-19 to motor deaths per year and that in his opinion there would be more deaths if people didn't go back to work.

He also stated that Americans wanted business to open and that he hoped to see them open soon. “They want to go back to their restaurants, they want to go back to work, they want to go back”. In regards to the nation's need for more medical supplies he stated; “We’re here to help them, they have to understand that we’re here to help them, they have to get that gear themselves. Governor Cuomo had a chance to order 16,000 ventilators two years ago and he turned it down. They shouldn’t be hating us, the fact is we’ve done a lot.”  When asked what he would say to Governor Gretchen when she stated that nurses can get through the next shift, but they can’t get through the next day in regards to masks. Trump answered, “they’re supposed to be buying this stuff over the years. Look, in all fairness to her, no one knew it was going to happen we are talking about millions of masks, when you’re talking about all the stuff you’re talking about, but they shouldn’t be hating us. We’re here to help them.”

Instead of answering how the government was working to aid hospitals and citizens suffering the consequences of coronavirus, he said that in two weeks there would be a boat in New York to help them, but neglected mentioning any other aid that would be provided to hospitals and workers around the country. He seemed to more so blame hospitals for not ordering enough medical supplies for a pandemic. He even stated that the states had to be nice to him to get what they need, exampling New York and how they were helping them build hospitals.

In regards to the 2 trillion dollar package that many say is solely geared to aid major corporations, Trump said that it was very important because they wanted to get the economy back (up). Which he said they could do fairly quickly, and the package will help them top where they were in the stock market before the crash. He touted how the loans are going to help companies who have been looking for loans for the past few years and couldn’t get them. “These are companies who are great companies and employ tens of thousands, in some cases hundreds of thousands of people, we gotta keep them in they're business.”

When asked what he'd say about how democratic senators say that it is loaded for corporations he answered, “its loaded, its loaded to save corporations”. He also spoke that by doing that he would be helping Americans. He stat ed that they’re not letting Boeing go out of business or AAA companies. “They’re going to probably give stock in their company to the people of our country, to the tax payers, to the citizens of our country.”

In 19 days the president would like to reopen companies for Easter, “Wouldn't it be great to have all of the churches full? You know the churches aren’t allowed essentially to have a congregation (anymore). You’ll have packed churches all over the country and I think that will be a beautiful time.”

At the end of the interview the president attempted to shake the reporters hand and took it back when he realized it would be better to elbow bump.
