Worried About Covid-19? This is Who You Should be Paying Attention To

Many Americans are face planting into their palms at the CDC’s response to novel coronavirus, especially after President Trump appears lackadaisical when referring to the virus. This has amped up understandable questions as to if the United States is prepared for a spread and even I am find my heart pounding at CNN’s analysts data and reporting. But who is going to be the first to inform us if we should be worried and what precautions to take? What those who are worried should remember is that the lockdown and epicenter of Covid-19 was in Wuhan a province Hubei located in China. While the virus did spread around areas of China, the vast majority of those infected remained within Wuhan, even now as the virus spreads around the world.

Even though President Trump appointed Vice President Pence to handle decisions regarding novel coronavirus he's going to be the last to inform the public as to what precautions your city is going to be taking. The decisions that Pence could be facing are if the government is going to pay for testing and the treatment if someone is infected, especially at critical levels. Another important issue that may have to be addressed is if employers will be required to pay those who are required to stay home. Another concern that would most likely be determined on a federal level are travel restrictions and bans to areas where the virus is spreading.

While the federal government does indeed have control of how the country will respond to the virus, how you will be affected by Covid-19 relies mainly within your city or county. Most decisions to quarantine or inform you would be determined by your city officials, then it would run into a state level and lastly the federal government would step in. If you’re worried about sending your kid to school or if you should go into work you can ask your city officials and public school systems and if you are concerned due to your health or medications (or has someone who does in your home) you should make sure to communicate now with your employer. If you live within the category of those who need to be most worried about the illness,

- Those over 50

- Most importantly over 70

- Those who suffer from preexisting illnesses or are on immune deficient medications

should seek answers from their physicians. They are the ones who are going to be most informed about what is going on in your state regarding the novel coronavirus and how worried you as an individual should be.

** If you are ill, (unless you are in dire need of medical attention) you should only be calling your physician to seek medical advice. Even if your physician suspects that you are infected, it would give them ample time to prepare testing for your visit and to make sure proper sanitary precautions have been implored. The last thing you want to do is show up at a hospital, wait for care and possibly infect other people who are sick, as they are the ones who should be kept most from those who may be infected by Covid-19. **
